PPSU is a high-performance, amorphous thermoplastic with exceptional heat resistance (glass transition temperature ~220°C), outstanding impact toughness (even at low temperatures), excellent hydrolytic stability, and resistance to repeated steam autoclave sterilization. It has a transparent amber appearance. Typical applications include surgical instruments, dental tools, baby bottles, IV components, and aerospace food service trays. Modification: PPSU can be glass fiber reinforced for increased stiffness in structural medical equipment housings.d withstands >1000 autoclave cycles without loss of impact strength. Food-contact PPSU is used for hot water fittings and reusable food containers. PPSU has low creep under load at elevated temperatures, critical for membrane housings and fluid handling. It resists chemicals common in hospitals, including cleaning agents. PPSU is often injection molded for complex, sterilizable parts. Laser-welded PPSU assemblies are used for fluidic connectors. PPSU’s high dielectric strength makes it suitable for high-temperature electrical applications. It is slightly less chemical resistant than PEEK but tougher and more cost-effective.
